Curriculum: Our developmentally appropriate curriculum is geared toward preparing the students to succeed in Kindergarten. We offer a loving, caring atmosphere to learn and grow in. With a focus in literacy, math and science, we also incorporate everyday life skills necessary to make an easy transition to Kindergarten.
Literacy: We encourage interest in books and stories in the classroom and through the use of the Security Public Children’s Library. The Story Time program and checking out books are designed to enhance the student's reading interests. Phonemic awareness and interactive read-aloud play a part in our weekly schedule. Students will use the Zoo-phonics program to promote correct letter sounds and letter recognition.
Creative Media: To develop and refine your child’s fine motor skills, they will use a variety of creative media including paint, crayon, chalk, play dough, glue bottles, and more.
Science: Science centers are available for children to experience throughout the school year and change seasonally with the curriculum. Life cycles of animals, nature walks, color blending, and season studies are just a few examples of the topics covered.
Math/Problem Solving: Pre-math, number recognition, printing, and counting are covered on a regular basis. Problem solving skills that will be useful in all students’ daily lives are a continuous part of our curriculum.
Physical Fitness: Gross motor skills are developed through a variety of fitness activities. Music and movement along with physical education are incorporated in the weekly schedule.
Programs & Celebrations: Our students perform special programs for their families during the school year. The children also enjoy Harvest, Valentine’s and other special celebrations throughout the school year.
