Tracy's engaging presence, positive nature, and ever-present smile made a lasting impact on all she knew and those she had only just met. Join us for a walk down memory lane and an opportunity to donate to the Tracy Vsetecka Scholarship Fund to continue her legacy.

Shirts/Apparel can be purchased at the event. Sale proceeds will be donated to her scholarship. The 5K walk will begin and end on the Green Field at the Widefield Parks & Recreation campus. The course map will be released closer to the event.

If you choose this option, please contact Nicole Reeves, Manager, at 719-391-3527 or

Refund Policy - Effective immediately, Widefield Parks and Recreation has implemented a new refund policy. We recognize that participants need to withdraw or miss activity sessions due to unforeseen circumstances. Registration fees are based on a variety of costs determined by the number of staff required, supply cost, and overhead fees, based on the number of registered participants. Because many of these costs must be paid in advance, withdrawals result in costs to Widefield Parks & Recreation. We appreciate your understanding.

Fee Increases - Due to the rising cost of staffing, supplies, and other expenses, Widefield Parks and Recreation will increase activity fees and drop in rates in order to maintain quality programming and opportunities for our community members.

The History of the Widefield School District 3 and WPR Partnership

The Security Metropolitan Parks and Recreation District was established August 20, 1960. In 1965, land was purchased on Aspen Drive and a community center, pool, two fields, and a playground were built by the end of 1966. In 1977, the park and recreation district found itself unable to pay $165,000 in bond debt. At that time, Widefield District 3 agreed to pay off the bonds while assuming all assets and services. The assimilation took place on January 1, 1978, and Widefield School District 3 Community Education and Recreation Services was formed. Thus creating the only park and recreation district owned and operated by a school district in the state of Colorado.  In 2016, the department was renamed Widefield Parks and Recreation.

Since WSD3 took control of the parks and recreation department, a unique and mutually beneficial relationship has grown and prospered. Thousands of youth and adults within the school district have participated in special events, learned how to swim, and competed in sports. Without the guidance from the WSD3 board of education, the sharing of district facilities, and a common vision, the growth of programs would have stalled. Community events like movies in the park, annual tree lighting, and community education classes make living in the Security/Widefield area and working for WSD3 a special place. Having the school district and parks and recreation work together allows both groups to shape the culture and seek innovation within the established traditions of the community.

The Future and Beyond
Growth, prosperity, and innovation of Widefield School District 3 has positively influenced Widefield Parks and Recreation. On April 5, Widefield Parks and Recreation had a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of a new recreation center. After an estimated 12-month construction period, a grand opening will be held June of 2023. The recreation center and already constructed fitness focused multi-aged playground are anchors of the main WPR campus located at 705 Aspen Drive and supports the vision of making the area a community hub and a resource for residents and district employees. The new spaces at Widefield Parks and Recreation are an extension of Widefield School District 3, and will provide a place for recreational, educational, and social activities for staff, students, and families in the Widefield community. Currently, membership fee structures are being built to use the pool and recreation center. Discounts will be given to current and retired WSD3 employees and residents of the school district. Information will be available to the public via the WPR website, monthly newsletter, and social media around the end of 2022 with early-bird discounts given to those who purchase memberships in the spring of 2023. For updates and more details on the construction process, please visit the  WPR Recreation Center webpage on our website.

Living and working in Widefield is special. Having a caring and community focused school district that invests in the lives of people daily helps Widefield feel like Widefield.

WPR Recreation Center

Impact of Construction
During the twelve month construction period, our campus will see several impacts. Parking lots, road ways, and sidewalks will have changes and improvements. This will make the campus easier to navigate and more accessible. Unfortunately during construction, some areas will be closed off and parking will be limited. The new recreation center and campus roadway improvements will allow us to better serve the community needs in the future. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.

We invite you to visit our WPR Recreation Center webpage for the most up to date information on the new recreation center.
