American Red Cross Classes

This two-day class for 11-15 year olds includes all of the skills and information covered in the American Red Cross Babysitting Class, plus CPR and First Aid. This fun and interactive training includes lively discussions and real life problem-solving skills, how to handle emergencies or illnesses, basic care-giving skills, how to choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games, and how to handle bedtime and discipline issues effectively.
Time: 9am - 3pm both days (please bring a sack lunch)

First Aid & CPR Certification
This class is for students 11 years and older who want or need first aid, CPR and AED training. The class will cover how to recognize and care for injuries or sudden illness until emergency services arrive. Also covered in the session will be handling emergency situations, breathing and cardiac emergencies, adult, child & infant CPR, basic precautions for preventing disease transmission, identifying and caring for life-threatening bleeding, sudden illness, and injuries. How to use an AED for victims of sudden cardiac arrest will also be covered. The certification is valid for 2 years. Materials are provided during class and can be printed free of charge at www.redcross.org.

Session 1: October 18 & 25 @ 3 - 7pm and October 19 & 26 @ 7:30am - 3pm

Provides entry-level participants the know and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certification for oxygen administration, valid for 1 year and Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years. Participants must be 15 years or older and meet prerequisites. Please note: no refunds after registration deadline.

Cost: $150/participant per session (*If you are hired on with us as a Lifeguard, we will reimburse the $150 fee after 150 hours of work!)
Lifeguard Training Prerequisites:
- Minimum age: 15 years
- Swim 300 yards continuously; freestyle or breaststroke.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.
- Complete the following event in 1 minute& 40 seconds: starting in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, then exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
- Completed American Red Cross online coursework: Once you register for this class, you'll receive an email from the instructor with links and login information. You must complete the online portion (approximately 20 hours) of this class before the first classroom meeting.
